O Allah, I Submit Myself to You
O Allah, I submit myself to You, I entrust my affair to You, I turn my face to You, and I lean my back on You, out of hope in You and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You sent down and in Your Prophet whom You sent.
What it means
Four handovers in a row: yourself, your affairs, your face and your back. The line that stays with people is that there is no escape from Allah except to Allah; when you are afraid of His decree, the only direction to run is towards Him.
When and how
Say it once after performing wudu and lying on your right side, and make it the last words you speak before sleeping.
Its virtue
The Prophet ﷺ taught it to al-Bara ibn Azib and told him that if he died that night he would die upon the natural religion, and to make it the last thing he said, reported in Sahih al-Bukhari 247.
