Blessings Upon Him, His Wives and His Offspring
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, his wives and his offspring, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim, and send favour upon Muhammad, his wives and his offspring, as You sent favour upon the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious.
What it means
This wording names his wives and his children explicitly, which is a reminder that the household of the Prophet ﷺ has a share in the honour we ask for him. It was narrated by Abu Humayd as-Saidi when the Companions asked the same question about how to send blessings.
When and how
Use it in the prayer or outside it, in rotation with the other authentic forms.
Its virtue
Reported in Sahih Muslim 407 as one of the forms taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself.
