The Salawat Taught to Abu Masud

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim, and send favour upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent favour upon the family of Ibrahim, among all the worlds. You are indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious.

What it means

A second authentic wording, narrated by Abu Masud al-Ansari, who asked the Prophet ﷺ this question in a gathering. It adds the phrase among all the worlds, asking that his mention be raised everywhere and not only among his own people. Either form is correct, and varying them keeps the words from becoming automatic.

When and how

Use it in the tashahhud as an alternative to the Bukhari wording, or at any time of day.

Its virtue

When Abu Masud asked how to send blessings on him, the Prophet ﷺ fell silent, then taught him this, reported in Sahih Muslim 406.
