My Lord, Enable Me to Be Grateful
Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakal-lati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayya wa an a'mala salihan tardahu wa adkhilni bi-rahmatika fi 'ibadikas-salihin.
My Lord, enable me to be grateful for the favour You have given to me and to my parents, and to do righteous work that pleases You, and admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants.
What it means
Sulayman said this at the height of his power, after overhearing an ant. Three things stand out: he asks for help even to be grateful, he includes his parents in the blessing he is thanking for, and despite everything he was given he asks to enter Paradise by mercy and not by merit.
When and how
Say it when something good happens, when a prayer of yours is answered, and when you think of your parents.
Its virtue
It is the dua of Sulayman recorded in Surah an-Naml, said at a moment of success rather than need.
