Refuge From Going Wrong on the Way Out

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an adilla aw udall, aw azilla aw uzall, aw azlima aw uzlam, aw ajhala aw yujhala 'alayya.

O Allah, I take refuge with You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or being made to slip, from wronging others or being wronged, and from behaving foolishly or having others behave foolishly towards me.

What it means

Each pair covers both sides of a harm: the one you might cause and the one you might suffer. It is a realistic dua for a day among people, where the greater danger is often what you do rather than what is done to you.

When and how

Say it once when leaving home, especially on days with meetings, disputes or crowds.

Its virtue

The Prophet ﷺ would say this whenever he left his house, reported in Sunan Abi Dawud 5094 and Jami at-Tirmidhi 3427.
