Seeking Forgiveness a Hundred Times
Say 100 times
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh.
I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I turn to Him in repentance.
What it means
Istighfar is not only for major sins. The Prophet ﷺ, whose past and future faults were forgiven, still sought forgiveness a hundred times a day, which tells you that this is maintenance rather than emergency repair. Regular istighfar keeps the heart from hardening around small things.
When and how
Spread a hundred across the day: in queues, while walking, before sleeping. Adding wa atubu ilayh is good, and the shorter Astaghfirullah is also complete on its own.
Its virtue
The Prophet ﷺ said that his heart would become clouded and that he sought Allah's forgiveness a hundred times a day, reported in Sahih Muslim 2702.
