When the Wind Blows Hard
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bih, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bih.
O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good in it and the good it was sent with, and I take refuge with You from its evil, the evil in it and the evil it was sent with.
What it means
Wind is described as sent, meaning it comes with an errand and not at random. Past nations were destroyed by it and fields have been watered by it, so the dua asks for one outcome and takes refuge from the other. The Prophet ﷺ also forbade cursing the wind, since it only does what it is told.
When and how
Say it during storms and high winds, and teach it to children so that frightening weather becomes a moment of dua.
Its virtue
Aishah reported that when the wind blew strongly the face of the Prophet ﷺ would change, and he would say this, reported in Sahih Muslim 899.
