O Allah, I Ask You for Wellbeing
Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahummastur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahummahfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.
O Allah, I ask You for wellbeing in this world and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and wellbeing in my religion, my worldly life, my family and my wealth. O Allah, cover my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, guard me from in front of me and behind me, from my right and my left and from above me, and I take refuge in Your greatness from being taken suddenly from beneath me.
What it means
Afiyah is one of the most complete things a person can ask for: to be kept safe and sound in body, religion, family and livelihood. The dua then asks for two quiet mercies most people never think to request, that your faults stay covered and that your fears be settled, before asking for cover from every direction.
When and how
Say it once in the morning and once in the evening. It is an excellent dua to hold onto in times of fear or public exposure.
Its virtue
The Prophet ﷺ never left off these words morning or evening, as reported by Ibn Umar in Sunan Abi Dawud 5074 and Sunan Ibn Majah 3871.
